LEADING THE WAY FOR INNOVATION

With areas in the Midlands such as Birmingham facing vast amounts of change with many businesses choosing to open an office (ourselves included!) or even relocate there, we take a look at how some of the older buildings in the city have been adapting to cater for the new work era.

TRICORN HOUSE

Tricorn House in Birmingham is an iconic building for a significant investment client. It has a knowledgeable resident Premises Manager who understands the importance of dedicated high quality, tenant-sensitive service. It is a multi-tenanted building with central services and substantial common areas including a restaurant, break-out areas, flexible co-working spaces and a newly installed gym.

As mentioned in our recent blog on the effects of flexible working on maintenance services, Tricorn House provides the perfect example of an older building adapting to suit the ever changing working environment trends. The building has been expertly refurbished to offer a mix of open plan and smaller self-contained office space, which has been attracting new tenants, in particular start-ups.

Based in the heart of the city centre Hemlow has maintained this 90,000 sq. ft. ten storey building for the last four years, during which the client heavily invested in improvements in future-proofing the building system in line with their strategy to be best in class.

ALPHA TOWER

Another example of a building responding to the start-up boom and the rise in flexible working is The Alpha Tower, also based in Birmingham, with the introduction of their co-working space named, Alpha Works. As part of a larger scale renovation of the whole building Alpha works is based on the 21st and 22nd floors, offering hot, desks, breakout areas, private offices and even event spaces.

Tenants based within the works can also benefit from the additional building perks introduced during the refurb including an new reception area, a café and up-scale shower and cycle facilities.

Hemlow have held the Engineering Services Maintenance contract at Alpha Tower for just over a year and have been working with the client to deliver a fully integrated and seamless service. Following the opening of Alpha Works we decided to put the event space to the test and chose the location to host our Hemlow CPD training day.

The clean cut contemporary style worked perfectly for us and we received excellent delegate feedback regarding the space.
