Meet our Business Development Manager, Elizabeth. Having joined Hemlow back in June, based in our Birmingham office, Elizabeth reflects back over the past 6 months and shares her hopes and aspirations for her future career at Hemlow.

Midlands and North

These past six months with Hemlow have flown by. Making the move from soft services to Hard FM has been very interesting as you look at a building in a whole new light. Rather than looking down at the skirting for dust and the floor for carpet stains I now look up to see how many fan coils units there are and the number of lights there are on site.

The transition has gone smoothly due to the level of support and training I have received. I completed a number of our accredited CPD training modules including: F-Gas Phasedown, Energy Management and An Overview of Air Conditioning. Alongside these modules I have had a very structured induction programme that has given me the opportunity to spend time with a number of our Contract Managers in the field to see the services we are delivering first hand. Needless to say my fear of heights and ladders has improved in the past six months!

It has been great spending time with the team and hearing their stories of their time at Hemlow. The majority of the current Hemlow management and senior engineering team have progressed through the company via inward promotions. By promoting from within Hemlow has created a hardworking, high morale culture that strengthens our quality of service offering to our clients. Our current clients are quick to refer our services and provide us with the opportunity to tender for additional buildings due to the solid work the team delivers.

Our reputation has provided a strong base for the expansion in the Midlands business and subsequently has given us the opportunity to work with new clients in Northampton, Oxford and Birmingham. We have also successfully expanded into the North West and now have a dedicated North West engineering service, which was extra special for me being a Manc.

Due to the success of the Midlands and North team we held our first Hemlow CPD training event in Manchester and Birmingham for a number of delegates. These were very successful with effective networking opportunities held after the training. It was interesting to receive  feedback from the delegates and fully understand the focus of FM for 2020 – Energy and Sustainability.

As a graduate I studied Physical Geography at the University of Leeds which had a large focus on climate change and energy management. It was nice to see the bridge that had formed between my degree and my work. My focus for 2020 will be on putting together a climate change awareness lecture which will work in harmony with Hemlow’s Energy Management CPD training. As a key focus for the industry and the world it is going to be an interesting year especially with the exciting energy efficient innovation Hemlow offers to its clients via 4D Monitoring. This will be a critical selling point for Hemlow going forward and one that will aid in the growth of the Midlands and North region.
