I joined Hemlow’s Estimator Development Programme after graduating from university with a degree in Construction Management in 2015. This programme allowed me to broaden my technical knowledge within building services, gaining a firm understanding of the mechanical and electrical systems that actually make buildings work.

As part of the programme I shadowed various engineers and contract managers within the company, the experience gained allowed me to fully appreciate how the building services industry operates. With this knowledge I was able to progress in my career from trainee estimator to bid manager.

I’ve always felt a key part to my growth at Hemlow is the great level of support I received throughout my training. Developing managers from within, is a vital part of the firm’s growth strategy, it is encouraging to see numerous examples of this within the company.

My role as bid manager is quite exciting and varied, it means taking responsibility for the tender process, which involving developing the bid strategy. This means overseeing site surveys, meeting with consultants to discuss the needs of the building, identifying competitor strengths and weaknesses then developing a solution to be pitched. If our tender is successful, I also oversee the handover of the building to the operations team.

In addition to my day to day responsibilities I have also enjoyed participating in group activities with my colleagues to help raise funds for our Company Charity. Earlier this year I joined my team mates at Eton Dorney where I was part of a Triathlon Relay Team racing against other Property Professionals.

Hemlow continues to invest in my development with various management training initiatives, in addition to this I have just embarked on my Building Services Engineering Masters Degree. I am really looking forward to the next phase of my career.
