Mark Bellinger is the latest member of our Technical support department, which is in place to assist the operations with technical surveys, training of our engineering team and driving change within our contracts for energy saving benefits through equipment replacement and use of technology.

We caught up with Mark to find out how his role will be beneficial to both the company and clients, along with his plans for his future at Hemlow.

 

Please could you provide me with an overview of your role?

In a nutshell, my role as a Technical Support Manager is to operate within the specialist technical support department, much like an in house consultant, to support the company’s wider operations.

I ensure all new contracts are mobilised correctly and proactively via condition reports, as well as making sure that the PPM contracts have an accurate schedule of assets with key details captured by our bespoke reporting software. All assets are assigned with operational life spans according to CIBSE guide M and I ensure that these have the correct maintenance specifications according to SFG20.  I also provide support by delivering technical engineering solutions for clients in the event of plant failures and remedial works.

Other aspects of my role will include in house CPD training of staff, and external clients in order to up-skill the industry with additional technical training, and training on bespoke niche areas within the industry.

How did you get into the M&E industry?

After leaving university, I had the opportunity to join a start-up M&E FM company as the first employee. I was initially taken on board to help grow the business and win new PPM contracts. I had particular success with winning new contracts in the public sector including schools and hospitals.

This was great experience for me and almost like an apprenticeship including engineering, business management, sales, contract management in which I learnt to be self- motivated and able to directly take charge of problems and provide resolutions. Nowadays, I often find myself referring back to previous experiences in order to help me make decisions within the industry.

What are your first impressions of Hemlow?

When I was a consultant engineer in my previous role, I had the benefit of seeing all of the various M&E contractors’ performance, responsiveness, service and quality. The company which always stood out to me, for the best attitude, service and positivity was without doubt Hemlow. As a consultant, whenever I needed something, I would always get a professional and efficient response. This is why I wanted to join the team!

What expertise are you bringing to Hemlow and how will it help in our continuous improvement?

I like to think I am quite well rounded within our sector, having experience of hands on engineering, contract management, winning of new business, dealing with a multitude of client sectors including public, private, health care and education. With this knowledge I think I will be able to offer assistance to all departments in order to refine our processes which in turn should aid our clients experience. I still have the desire to learn and improve and share the knowledge I have with the wider team. I think it is important to stay open minded and understand there is always a better way of doing things.

What are your hopes and aspirations for next year?

My aspiration for the next year is to help cement our new contracts and provide our wider team with helpful information via my condition reports. I also aim to be fully integrated into Hemlow and to be well established with great working relationships with my colleagues on both a personal and professional front.

Where do you see your role developing in the next year?

Once the main aspects of the role have been completed, I would like to work along side Vince to see how we can develop our department into new technologies and look to continually improve and refine our service.
